Sinochem news's famous industrial robot manufacturer ABB's new robot factory and R & D base in Shanghai, China, recently held a foundation laying ceremony. The new factory adopts advanced manufacturing processes including machine learning, digitalization and collaborative solutions, with the goal of becoming an intelligent factory that "uses robots to make robots". The plant is expected to be put into operation in the next 21 years, with a total investment of 150million US dollars (about 1billion yuan)

it is reported that the new factory is located in Shanghai Kangqiao, covering an area of 67000 square meters. The new plant will become a complete digital manufacturing ecosystem. By adopting digital twin technology, managers, engineers, operators and maintenance teams can gain the advantages brought by data insight and machine learning, so as to improve performance and maximize production efficiency. The new factory with high automation will be based on interconnected automation islands rather than fixed assembly lines. Robots can move from one workstation to another. Compared with the traditional linear production system, it has a higher customization level and greater flexibility. The AGV can provide parts for robot production in time, and the latest collaboration technology will ensure that people and robots can adjust the distance between the main body and the dynamometer at a close distance according to the shape and foundation drawing, and adjust the direction of all-round collaboration, bring greater flexibility and agility to the production process, and fully combine the advantages of the robot with the excellent work ability of employees. ABB will use a machine learning based system to check robot assembly work to ensure that the highest quality standards are met

the new factory will also set up a strong R & D center to help accelerate the innovation and development in the field of artificial intelligence. The R & D center will adopt an open innovation mode. In addition to having specific requirements for control mode, abb will cooperate with customers to jointly develop an automatic solution to meet customers' personalized customization needs that such coated PET bottles can be completely recycled like pure PET bottles

"since the announcement of the new factory project last October, we have received strong support from the local government." Peter

voser, chairman and CEO of ABB, introduced that the project was included in the top ten projects of the "made in Shanghai" plan in 2019. "As the manufacturing center of the world, China's production mode is constantly shifting to mass customization. At the same time, the shortage of skilled labor is becoming increasingly serious, which will promote China's strong and lasting demand for automation solutions."

Sami

atiya, President of ABB robotics and discrete Automation Division, said: "we expect that the breadth and depth of our robot product line will double in the next few years. This means that we need factories that can produce more types of robots and effectively expand production capacity to adapt to changing market conditions and technical trends."

China is the largest robot market in the world. In 2017, one third of the global robots were sold to China. It is estimated that by 2025, the global robot sales will increase from the current US $80billion to US $130billion
